Net-Zero Office Concealed Therapeutic Pool | Wallover Architects Aquatic Design

A Groundbreaking Integration of Architecture, Wellness & Sustainability

In partnership with EwingCole (Architect of Record), Wallover Architects Incorporated served as the aquatic design architect for one of the most technologically advanced and visually stunning projects in recent memory—a fully concealed therapeutic pool built into a net-zero energy commercial office structure. This innovative aquatic facility merges sustainability, versatility, and wellness by integrating a movable floor system (Vario Pool, Amsterdam, Netherlands) that transforms an atrium into a therapeutic pool space with the push of a button.

This cutting-edge facility exemplifies how aquatic design can be reimagined for modern wellness-focused workplaces.

    Net-Zero Therapeutic Pool

A Groundbreaking Integration of Architecture, Wellness & Sustainability

    Designed for Accessibility & Comfort

As part of the renovation, the facility now features:

    • ADA-Compliant Access Upgrades
Including a vertical platform chair lift to provide access from the facility to the pool deck, as well as a swim lift to ensure safe water entry for patrons with mobility limitations.

    • Dehumidification System
An independent, state-of-the-art pool dehumidification system improves indoor air quality and enhances comfort for swimmers and spectators.

    • New Filtration System
The outdated filtration system was replaced with a modern, high-efficiency system, delivering crystal-clear water and operational reliability.

Key Features of the Concealed Therapeutic Pool Project

    • “Vario-Pool” Movable Floor System
Manufactured in the Netherlands, this buoyant movable floor system is engineered with stainless-steel cables, pulleys, and hydraulic rams—allowing the pool to vanish into the atrium floor when not in use.

    • Disappearing Pool Concept
The oval-shaped pool is precisely tiled using large- and small-format porcelain ceramic tiles, blending seamlessly into the atrium floor within a 3/16” tolerance—an architectural and construction feat.

    • Custom Concrete Pool Shell
Constructed with pneumatically placed reinforced concrete to ensure long-term structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

    • Exclusive Access for Staff
This non-public facility is accessible only to approved staff, supporting wellness programming, stress relief, and workplace rejuvenation.

    • Eco-Conscious Design & Water Systems
Designed with the building’s net-zero mission in mind:

      • VFD-controlled pumps to reduce operating pressure and power usage

      • Pressure regenerative filtration for water conservation

      • Primary and secondary sanitation systems

      • Sphagnum moss water treatment introduced via the pool’s surge tank for a natural, low-impact disinfection approach

    Net-Zero Therapeutic Pool

Innovation in Aquatic Design for Sustainable Environments

This remarkable project illustrates the high level of technical precision, design integration, and sustainable thinking that Wallover Architects brings to every unique challenge. The successful implementation of a movable-floor therapeutic pool within a net-zero office structure marks a new benchmark in aquatic facility innovation—blending architectural finesse with engineering excellence.
