Reimagining an Icon: A New Chapter for a Historic Community Landmark

For over 80 years, the North Pavilion in the Borough of Spring Lake has been a vital hub for beachgoers and community members, providing direct access to the Jersey shore and boardwalk. However, decades of exposure to harsh coastal conditions took their toll on the aging facility. In response, the Borough embarked on a visionary redevelopment to rejuvenate this iconic landmark.

A Comprehensive Renovation for Modern Needs

Wallover Architects, in collaboration with the Borough of Spring Lake, has developed a master plan to completely renovate the historic North Pavilion and its pool facilities. The project, valued at an estimated $6.2 million, focuses on:

  • Revitalizing the Aquatic Experience:
The new design introduces a modern competition pool and leisure pools that cater to both recreational and competitive swimming. A key goal was to transform the facility into a destination that serves the entire community.

  • Enhancing Accessibility and Functionality:
The updated facility meets current ADA requirements, featuring expanded locker and toilet facilities designed to accommodate the growing needs of beachgoers and residents.

  • Preserving Coastal Charm:
While the facility has been modernized, the design remains sensitive to its historic roots, ensuring that the new North Pavilion integrates seamlessly with the scenic beachfront and boardwalk.

  • Modern Amenities:
The renovation includes state-of-the-art pool construction with advanced water management systems, creating an environment that is not only visually stunning but also highly functional. New features include enhanced water play areas, efficient filtration systems, and energy-efficient building materials.

Project Highlights

  • New Competition and Leisure Pools:
Redesigned to provide a versatile aquatic experience suitable for both competitive events and family recreation.

  • Expanded Support Facilities:
The renovation includes upgraded locker rooms, expanded toilet areas, and modernized changing facilities, ensuring comfort and convenience for all visitors.

  • Seamless Architectural Integration:
The new North Pavilion is designed to blend harmoniously with the existing coastal landscape, preserving the charm of Spring Lake while introducing modern functionality.

  • Community-Focused Design:
With direct access to the beach and boardwalk, the facility is set to become a focal point for community events, athletic programs, and recreational activities, promising a “WOW factor” that enhances the overall visitor experience.

A Vision for the Future

Set to redefine community aquatic facilities, the new North Pavilion will once again solidify its place as a cherished icon for the Borough of Spring Lake. The updated facility will not only offer year-round recreational opportunities but also serve as a benchmark for modern pool design in coastal communities.
