The great interest in saving our past architectural fabric was greatly stimulated by the investment tax credits given to investors during the early 1980's. In fact this was largely the reason our practice moved from Ohio to Pennsylvania. Unfortunately the federal tax laws were revised before larger areas of mostly urban environments could be stimulated with new life. Our firm's expertise continues to grow in this area with varied and interesting projects, which become jewels in the communities, which they are a part of.
The Hotel Wellington
Carlisle, Pennsylvania

This Project features the complete restoration/adaptive reuse of the first four-story structure in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The architectural solution reconfigured the original hotel and retail structures into first class professional office and apartment space. This tax credit project was vacant for fifteen years prior to restoration. Through research we were able to re-establish the original 1880's building façade and revitalize the historic streetscape by injecting the building with new life. This project won an award from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Bureau for Historic Preservation in 1988.
  The Highspire School Apartments
Highspire,
Pennsylvania
This historic tax credit project represents a successful blend of high quality historic adaptive re-use techniques and low-to-moderate income elderly housing. The project required the integration of elements from three distinct time periods into a comfortable living environment for the elderly. The Project was well received by the developer, the State funding agency and most importantly the satisfied residents.
  Monroe Falls Village Hall
Munroe Falls, Ohio

A one-room schoolhouse was the foundation for the development of a full service municipal office and council chamber for a northeastern Ohio community. An appropriately scaled office addition combined with careful selection of materials produced a cost effective yet visually stimulating community asset. The Project featured extensive interior finish work with a number of the furnishing components designed by our staff and fabricated exclusively for this building. In addition we provided total interior architectural design services and equipment selection to complete the development.

Fort Chambers Building
Chambersburg,
Pennsylvania
This early nineteenth century fulling mill was renovated to create desirable modern office space along the banks of a picturesque stream. The original exterior and structure were maintained while a contemporary entrance was added to facilitate the new office facility. This tax act project exposes the unique construction techniques of a mid-nineteenth century building while adding contrasting modern features.
