The
design of recreational facilities requires planning, technical
understanding and creative solutions. As architects we maintain
our technical knowledge through continuing education. As parents
we understand the need to create facilities, which delight
and encourage potential users. We believe that an appealing
architecture greatly contributes to a facility's overall success.
The staff of Recreation Planning Associates (RPA), our associated
company, includes personnel educated in municipal and therapeutic
recreation. The services provided by RPA allow us to provide
a full range of services including parks and recreational
feasibility studies, program and management planning, needs
assessment surveys, and impact studies. This capability informs
and works with our facility design for aquatics and other
recreational goals.

Lanco
Field House
East Petersburg, Pennsylvania
|
This
indoor soccer training and competitive facility includes three fields
within an 82,000 square foot, pre-engineered clear span structure.
The privately developed structure was constructed to fill a need
in the community for a safe, traditionally played indoor soccer
facility. Soccer, Field Hockey, Football, Lacrosse and Volleyball
sports regularly practice and compete in the facility, which strengthens
local club and school programming. Weight training, fitness training,
concessions and spectator seating are also provided. The design-build
facility utilizes the latest artificial turf made of recycled rubber
tires, polypropylene yarn and sand. The turf is designed to avoid
the type of injuries that are common with previous generations of
artificial turf.

Restaurant,
Sesame Place
Langhorne, Pennsylvania
|
Conversion
of an 8,500 square foot, two-story building into a dynamic, 264
seat, cafeteria style restaurant for this Anheuser-Busch owned water
amusement park. Our fast track services included coordination of
full engineering, food service and theming design consultants. The
publicly accessible second story required a new communicating stair
and elevator access. The resulting dining room is a sun-filled,
colorful delight, which extends the park's exterior themes to the
interior.

Games
of Skill Pavilion, Sesame Place
Langhorne, Pennsylvania
|
A
largely open air, 4,200 square foot, steel frame construction, gaming
pavilion was designed for this tight site with difficult construction
access. The limited construction schedule was accommodated by using
off the shelf materials. Standard electronic games and custom arcade
games are coupled with the colorful sesame character theming to
provide a carnival atmosphere. Our fast track services included
coordination of engineering and theming design consultants. Individual
games are linked to the parks computer network.

Flat
Rides, Sesame Place
Langhorne, Pennsylvania
|
The
original section of the amusement park is undergoing phased renovation.
The first phase included the installation of two new kiddie rides
and a pavilion for photo shoots with Sesame characters. Our work
included the site design to integrate the rides within the existing
park fabric. The new photo shoot pavilion required coordination
with theming consultants for the character background graphics.
The off-season construction schedule was completed on schedule despite
near record snowfall.

Aldersgate Recreation Center
Swartswood, New Jersey
|
This
facility will provide the welcoming pavilion for this 200 acre,
year round, church camp and retreat. The thoughtful design of the
Center's existing buildings demanded no less in the design of this
new facility. The challenge presented in this program was to provide
a human scaled gateway to the camp complex while enclosing the largest
scale programming. The multi-use recreation facility includes an
orientation pavilion, concession, bathhouse, gymnasium and outdoor
25-yard recreation and training pool.
